PhotoNOLA, the international festival of photography presented annually in December by the New Orleans Photo Alliance, celebrates fine art photography with exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and more. This year, the festival will kick off with the launch of THNOC’s latest publication, Louisiana Lens: Photographs from The Historic New Orleans Collection.

Louisiana Lens celebrates the achievement of one of America’s leading photography curators, with works ranging from early daguerreotypes to born-digital photographs documenting the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Author John H. Lawrence, who spent four decades building THNOC’s photographic collection, traces the development of the medium alongside the growth and change of New Orleans and Louisiana over nearly two centuries.

On December 13, Lawrence will be joined by Jeff L. Rosenheim, Joyce F. Menschel Curator in Charge of the Department of Photographs for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, for a lively conversation. A reception and book signing will follow the program from 6:30–8 p.m. at 520 Royal Street in the French Quarter.
